- Flooding in St Ives
- Heavy rain often causes severe flooding in the Great Ouse Valley. Record high water levels were reached in 1947. Subsequently April 1998 and January 2003 saw water levels nearly as high as the 1947 levels.

- Fen Speed Skating
- About one year in three the Fens freeze in winter and the Fen outdoor speed skating championships are held on Bury Fen, just a few miles from St Ives.

- Eclipse of the moon
- In the early hours of Sunday morning 9th November 2003 a total eclipse of the moon, visible from St Ives, occurred.

- Inland Waterways Festival 2007
- Over the bank holiday weekend in August 2007 the Inland Waterways Festival will take place in St Ives on Hemingford Meadow. Hundreds of boats and tens of thousands of visitors are expected to attend.

- The Vikings visit St Ives
- In September 2001, the Vikings visited St Ives. The visit included a Long Boat which they sailed on the river Great Ouse.

- From Cambridge to Sydney by helicopter
- Martin Rutty and Tim Gilbert flew from Cambridge to Sydney in an unmodifed Robinson R44 helicopter for a world first.
